That's why it's so important to very carefully choose the people that you associate with. You see, these people can directly affect the way that you think about yourself. And, depending on the way you think about yourself, can affect the outcome of whether or not you succeed or fail in your life.
If you already have a low self-esteem, people who say negative things to you can absolutely crush you and make you feel even lower about yourself. If you don't have a low self-esteem, you still have to watch out for people who tear you down because they can say things to you that could cause you to create self-doubt and insecurities.
I love a quote from Mark Twain which, I believe, explains how important it is to surround yourself with great people to maximize your own success in life. Mark Twain once said, 'Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great.
Don't let people belittle you and tell you that you can't do something great in life. Get around great people that can help you and show you that you can be as great as you want to be. Life is too short to be surrounding yourself with people who will only belittle you and make you feel that you are worthless.

I absolutely agree with this article.
Success is a journey and you have to have motivations and encouragements so as to travel the tough and winding journey. At such, if you are surrounded by those who could guide or assist you in the journey, it will make it pretty motivated and joyful to travel to the top. However, if you are surrounded by naysayers and morons, you spent most of your time trying to convinced them to join you or agree with your plan and that left you sapping for energy for yourself. Worst off, since the bystanders are always greater in numbers, instead of convincing them, you got convinced by their negative thoughts and pessimism and ended being one of them - in the negative world of havenots.
So, you not only have to be surrounded by those motivators; you have to make sure that you have selected to be with those groups of people who are passionate to travel to the same route of success. The best way is to crowd your time with those who are successful or those who are traveling the same journey of success.
